He used the GI Bill to earn a Master’s in Applied Teaching, specializing in Physical Education and Health, further honing his skills in instructing and guiding others toward a healthier, more active life..
Meet Coach Kelly Crowley, a multi-sport-enthusiast born with a funny little arm. She is a passionate educator, youth fitness coach, and retired professional, Paralympic athlete. She's on a mission to make youth sports fun and flexible again. With decades of coaching experience in swimming, cycling, and middle-school PE (swimming, water polo, cross country, track & field, basketball, soccer, yoga, and fitness), Kelly brings a big smile and truly-terrible Dad jokes to every summer camp session.
Kelly has held coaching certifications from USA Swimming, USA Cycling, and USA Track & Field. She is a Level 3 Disability Swiming coach (ASCA) and is in the process of completing a neuro-somatic coaching certification. She's volunteered as a coach and mentor with Veterans' sport programs at numerous Paralympic sport clubs, and taught thousands of hours of swim clinics and lessons to clients of all ages (4-68) and abilities. She loves guiding kids to realize their innate athleticism, and helping adults re-connect with their inner child.
Oregon Fit is Born
With over 25 years of experience coaching multiple sports such as swimming, water polo, mountain biking, cross country, soccer, rugby, lacrosse, weight training, and conditioning, we understand the appeal and life-long benefits of sports. We offer youth fitness summer camp opportunities that teach functional movement through play, so that our children understand physical activity as a lifestyle, and we are supporting their long-tern involvement in healthy sport.
Observation
In our years of coaching adults and children, we've noticed a pattern: some individuals are able to sprint, to move efficiently, while others struggle to perform complex movements or increase their pace beyond a jog. This is why our focus is on fundamental movement skills over specific sports skills at an early age.
Challenge
Additionally, we've seen too many children and families leave organized sports due to the demands of early specialization and the competitive environment, which often prioritizes winning-at-all-costs over the development of essential movement skills. This approach leads to early burnout and anxiety, and also leaves behind late bloomers or kids who want to pursue multiple passions.
Solution
Our approach relieves these symptoms, as well as, financial and time-related pressures on families. Oregon Fit offers short, focused skill building clinics, teaching fundamental movement skills that compliment recreational and competitive sports. Our programs prioritize learning, enjoyment, skill and accuracy development in a challenging but non-competitive environment.
